Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The first amendment is a pretty broad amendment with various aspects involved. It includes the freedom of religion and speech, which are two very big issues in the world right now and I think will always be. It is intended to be simple, yet as citizens act on their rights, they are sometimes criticized or punished.
This video gave a different view on the freedom of speech. Although citizens have this right, they are often criticized for what comes out of their mouths. It gives us a great example explaining that no matter our rights we are closely watched and judged. Although we are free to speak how we feel, we have to be cautious because there are consequences as we exercise the first amendment.
In this video there is a breakdown of the first amendment. He reiterates that there are limitations placed on the freedom rights mentioned in the first amendment. It reminds us that yes we have this right, but only to a certain extent. We must still be careful with what we say. It also mentioned how subtle religion has limitations placed on it. They removed religion from schools which strips citizens of their freedom of religion.
